Emma Freeman (Cottonwood Films) has been working as a director and producer in television, film and music videos for 18 years on a variety of projects including Offspring, Sisters, Tangle, Puberty Blues, Miss Fishers Murder Mysteries, Hawke (telemovie), Love My Way and Party Tricks.
Her short films Blood and Ash, Daphne and Ollie and 2002 Tropfest Best Film and Best Screenplay, Lamb have screened at numerous Australian and International film festivals including London, Locarno, New York, Cork, American Cinemateque and Palm Springs.
In 2010 Emma was nominated for an AFI – Best Direction in Television for her work on Tangle and Hawke, for which she won the award. Hawke was also nominated for a Logie – Most Outstanding Telemovie and won the ADG award for Best Direction in a Telemovie.
Emma most recently won the award for Best Music Video at the St Kilda Film Festival for Child Bride (CocoRosie).
Emma is the sole director on Matchbox Pictures/Netflix Original Glitch (2015 Australian Directors Guild Best Direction in a Television Drama and AACTA Best Television Drama Series) and the critically acclaimed Matchbox Pictures/Foxtel/NBCU political thriller, Secret City featuring Anna Torv, Dan Wyllie, Jacki Weaver, Alex Dimitriades, Alan Dale and Mekhi Phifer (2016 Australian Directors Guild Best Direction in a Television Drama).
